May 2023 978-1447674078

DESCRIPTION:

Natasha Hilbers is a veteran and poet whose first publication, Brave: A Collection of Poems from the Depths of Despair, draws from her time in service and the emotional aftermath that followed.

Through raw, honest verse, she captures the weight of experience, resilience, and survival.

Writing Brave became both a healing process and a turning point—transforming pain into purpose, and sharing words that resonate with others navigating their own journeys beyond service.

EXCERPT:

A pathetic decision, unjust and bold

By Natasha Hilbers ©

In a realm of honor and sacrifice, a scandal unfolds,
A pathetic decision, unjust and bold.
Medals stripped, a tarnished decree,
Without due process, a betrayal we see.

Special forces warriors, their valor unbound,
Now stripped of recognition, their achievements unsound.
No lawful investigation, no chance to defend,
Leaving soldiers implicated, their trust at an end.

While officers in command, retain their medals so bright,
An incredulous double standard, a twisted sight.
The rotten decision, a stain on the brave,
Leaving justice abandoned, the soldiers left to crave.

Oh, the scandal that lingers, the bitterness so deep,
For those who served, their souls weep.
The protections they deserved, denied with disdain,
Leaving wounds unhealed, a lingering pain.

Let us raise our voices, in outrage and might,
Demanding justice, exposing this blight.
For soldiers deserve fairness, due process upheld,
And those responsible held accountable, truth compelled.

In this realm of honour, let justice prevail,
And the medals restored, their valour never to pale.
May those who served find solace and peace,
As we fight for truth, and this scandal release.
